      Seaside (Litoral) - Brief History:

Dobruja, a territory bathed by the Danube to the NW and by the Black Sea to the west, offers the chance of a unique leap back in time. The region is crammed with testimonies of a 6000 years old history.

Constanta, the main city of the region, is a romantic city, dominated by Turk and Eastern architecture, with well preserved antique ruins. The Greeks and the merchants who came form Millet and Middle Asia established the city 2000 years ago. The city was named Tomis in the beginning of the 1st century A.D. and in the 4th century A.D, the Romans changed it to Constantinia.

The Latin poet Ovid, who spent his last years here, exiled by Caesar, wrote "Tristia" or "Epistulae ex Ponto", which tell of the life and customs of the people living here. The Greek and Roman archeological vestiges are still intact, including Tomis spas or fragments of Roman mosaic.

The strategic position helped the city become an important port since its early beginning and a modern, highly developed one, which operates an intense international marine traffic.
